Tlhis work evolved into a demo about coloration. Just as quilters think about patterns large and small when they lay out their fabric pieces, I saw different possibilities with the outline of this design. I could focus on the stars and the arrows as in the upper half, or I could bring out two large paths, the chain of boxes and the broken blue octagon seen in the lower right.
Looking at a tiny thumbnail of my paint job, like the one on the menu page, I realized there was an unintended effect, that of a day / night juxtaposition.
